Fantasy Football

Well I have now been playing in my first fantsy football league for 3 weeks and my record is 3-0, Not a bad start. I will admit that if I didnt have Tom Brady, Andre Johnson, and  Darren Mcfadden i would be hurting. In two of the three weeks between these players they have gotten my team around 3/4 of my points. All i can hope is that they keep performing and don't get hurt. This Week I go head-to-head against The Itialian Stallion. He and I are the only two teams who have not lost. He has a good team but his big points getter, Michael Vick, might not play this week and his back-up is Chad Henne. This will help me. At this point we are project at me 100.3 points and him at 101.51. I think I have the upper hand but you never know how a team or player will perform each week. Let's Go Team Jimbo.

Mens Fraternity Week 2

aThis Week in the Men's Fraternity: The Quest for Authentic Manhood, we learned about the four faces of manhood. These faces are honorable faces that each man should have in his life. Since there is four of them there is a balance that needs to be achieved. The four faces are The King face, The Warrior face, The Lover face, and The Friend face.

The King face is the face that reflects the love of what is right over comfort. This face is characterized by strong convictions, courageous moral choices, a servant spirit, and righteous leadership. If you are not correctly balanced in this area you are close to or are a tyrant or an abdicator.

The Warrior face reflects conquering energy and the characteristics are initiative, protecting, providing, perserving and fighting. On either side of the warrior face is a Wimp or a Destroyer.

The lover face reflect romantic energy and is characterized by Tenderness, sensitivity, sacrificial care, emotional openness, physical affection. on either side of the Lover face is cold and the other end of the spectrum is critical.

The Friend face reflects connecting energy and is characterized by loyalty, accountability, challenge, and fun. The end of the friend spectrum is the loner and the user.

Because of the way our culture is today most men lack the king face and without the king face the warrior face becomes unrestrained, hurting lives, including his own. Along with our culture the increasingly feminized culture has emasculated the warrior in many young men. The result has been the creation of the soft male, indecisive as to direction, and weak as to leadership.

Which of the four faces can you most identify with and why?

I think many guys including myself can identify witht he warrior face b/c of sports and the desire to win.
Which of the four faces do you need the most help with?

Honestly i need to work more on the lover face, I need to show more affection with my wife and doing this class is a good reminder. If you have trouble with this here  is a good book, Love & Respect.

Ultimate Frisbee

Believe it or not me the 5' 11" guy caught the frisbee and the 6' 6" guy did't
Up until about a year and a half ago the only time i had ever played ultimate frisbee was once or twice in gym class and other than that I dont  think i have ever really played ultimate anywhere else. Once I started going to The Living Room that all changed. Shortly after i started attending the group they had a picinic at Spring Creek Park and apparently just about everytime we get together other than on thursady  nights we play ultmiate frisbee. It is just one of those sports that almost anyone can play. Some of the people that play are really good. Before playing frisbee with them i didnt know that you could throw a disc so many different ways accuratly.  I think the hardest part of the game is learnign to read the frisbee when you are running to catch it. I think everyone should try a real game at least a couple times.  This sport can be hardcore as most sports check out this clip.

Side note if anyone ever wants to play and you are in the State College, PA area let me know.

Saturday

I had an event full weekend. First thing is that my wife's busniess Sweet Inovations by R had two wedding cakes. On for the Gardner Rishell wedding at the Mingoville Country Club, which I have lived in this area for 20+ years and have never heard of the place. And the other cake was for her brothers wedding in Pittsburgh. So Friday we were up unitl 1:30 to 2:00 finishing up the cakes. Saturday morning we had to be at the Mingoville Country Club at 8:00am because her brothers wedding started at noon.  The first cake delivery went well so we ended up leaving for Pittsburgh around 8:30. We arrived in at the church in Pittsburgh at 11:00.  So i made good time. One thing i would like to point out about Route 22 is that since most of the construction is done on that road between Holidaysburg and Murrysville It does not take near as long as it used to. I know that that road has had contruction going on for as long as i can remember.

This section is for the parents out there, How do you get your children ages 2 Thatcher and 3 Hayden to sit quietly for 30 to 45 minutes through a wedding Our 3 year old actually didn't do that bad but it took some chewy candy and my cell phone where he played Paint, Need for Speed or "cars" as he called it and many rounds of Angry Birds. That work well for him, but my two year old was not so easy. First thing i made sure of is that we had an end seat on the outside ailse just in case i need to get him out of there. We tried the same tactic on Thatcher as we did Hayden, but i did not work as well.  It worked for the first 15 to 20 minutes but after that i had to use my planned escape to the outside. Once we were outside Thatcher was in a better mood. After the wedding we set out for the reception. The receptiion ended up being at the house of a friend of the brides. This house was beautiful. I failed
to get some pictures of the front but i did get some pictures of the back and the garden. The boys had a great time just running the paths of the garden for 3/4 of the time we were there. At the reception there was a "candy" bar which is bascally a table with a bunch of different kinds of candy on it. Overall the reception was good the cake was Amazing as was the location. We got home around 7:00pm.

Mens Fraternity

aThis week I started Men's Fraternity: The Quest for Authentic Manhood. This group is about becoming a real man, and when I say real man i am not referring to the kind of man that today's society has set but a real man. The way this work is we watch a video and answer some questions in a workbook and a major part of it is sharing your views on what was watched and how we fell about it or how it does or should apply to our daily lives. In this journey these main questioned will be answered:

  • What makes a man a man? a real man?
  • How does one become a man?
  • Is there a moment when it happens?
  • What is it that holds men back from their true masculine destiny?
  • How should authentic manhood express itself today?
There are more questions that will be answered but these are the main ones.

The first thing that was discussed was how manhood is in a state of confusion. If asked what is manhood or what makes you a man? the majority of people can't give a real convincing answer.

I have been told by a couple of guys who have started it last year but missed some of it that The Quest for Authentic Manhood has helped them in there marriage, job, and just overall satisfaction with there life and the way that they see things now. I am really looking forward to doing this and seeing it the whole way through. If any one is interested or wants more information just click on the hyperlink at the beginning of the post or we have the group every Wednesday at 7pm at the :
State College Assembly of God Church 2201 University Drive
State College,  PA   1680

I will be talking about this weekly hopefully every Thursday.

What makes a man a man?

Leave me a post.

Potty Training

We started officially potty training my oldest son.  He only like to wear the underwear with Lightning McQueen from cars or any sports activity on them. Other than that he doesn't like plain underwear. Our approach to make this happen is for the next week or so when we can he has to sit on the potty for a minute or two every 15 to 20 minutes. As a reward for going in the potty we have a bag of candy he can choose from, but sometimes he wants an apple instead.
It has been a long couple of days. We have had a couple successes and a couple accidents.  Although the accidents happened when we were not at home. One happened at the playground and i'm glad it rained today to clean up the mess he left in the crawl tube. The other happened after church when we were just talking to everyone before we left.  We were half lucky that we had clothes to change him into but we only had a pair or jeans, so he ran around the church for a few minutes in just jeans.  He wasn't happy about that b/c he really likes to have a shirt and pants on all the time. But all-in-all i think he is starting to get the jist of potty training.

Weekend

After school on Friday I went home and found my wife working a groomsman cake for her business she runs out of our house called Sweet Innovations by R. You can find out more about here through the link. She was making a fire truck. If you look at the picture i think she did a really great job. But while she is working on her cakes I am in charge of keeping the boys and the dog out of the kitchen. The dog is easy to keep out but the boys on the other hand and not so easy, mainly because they love there mom and love to help her make the cakes and taste test the cakes.  The boys are so brainwashed that when they here the timer for the oven they both go running to the kitchen expecting cookies or cake. Same thing happens when the mixer starts b/c they really like icing, but what kid doesn't like sugar. I will admit the boys can get past me once in a while, and when they do they almost always seem to get into things.

Saturday i went to work and my favorite thing happened 30 minutes before it was time to leave, i was asked to help on of the truck drivers load up some hoses and pumps to delivery b/c of all the flooding.  I was expecting some small pumps and hoses but i was mistaken. We ended up loading one 8" pump and two 6" pumps with a couple hundred feet of hose. I was hoping to get home before the start of the Penn State football game kickoff at 3:00ish but that didn't happen.  I helped the driver until 3:00 when the store closed then everyone else started helping and we still didn't get done until 3:40ish.  So, that could have went better. The good news is by the end of the Penn State game I didn't care that i missed the beginning b/c it was pretty horrible game to watch as a Penn State fan.

Sunday I woke up went to church, watched the Steelers game or massacre of the Steelers, and went to my moms for dinner.  The church service was a great message about how there are some people who go to church and do everything that makes them look the part but they don't believe or strive to get closer to God. That is just the overview if you are interested in hearing more go to State College Assembly of God Website.

My First Fantasy Draft

Last week I participated in my first Fantasy Football draft with some of my classmates. We had everything set up and were all ready to do the draft but yahoo would not load the whole way through to the draft page. Everyone one was not happy that it had auto-drafted our teams, except for me. I know some things about football but not as much as most of the others guys in the league. Luckily my auto-drafted team was voted the best drafted team by yahoo.  When looking down the list of who I got I recognized some of the bigger named players like Tom Brady, Andre Johnson, and Peyton Manning.  There are some other really good players that i remember hearing their names but that's about it like Steven Jackson and Darren McFadden. It is now Monday and I am leading in my head to head battle against The Fourth Reich and Tom Brady and Darren McFadden still have to play so it is looking really good for me to win my first head-to-head match. Since the draft i find my self starting to research players on my team and prospects for the team. I never thought i would see the day. Fantasy Football is an ADDICTING activity. I think next year i will be in a couple different leagues thats how much fun fantasy football is.
